Don’t Cry

Don’t cry

Stop crying

Crybaby –

cruelly

carelessly

callously

not kindly.

A reprimand

a command

in every syllable.

Dry your eyes

Don’t be silly

Nothing to cry about.

Waiting tears are silenced

left unshed

to calcify

and turn my heart

to stone,

a child’s inheritance.

  1. What a shame that we would take the sensitivity of a child and paste that stiff upper lip on, which is so out of place and dampens his smile. You have cleverly provided us with a critique – will we be wise enough to apply it well to our next generation?
